Spring is Here
time_stamp It is time for a new tradition. Join us at the school on Saturday, April 5th for our first Shaolin Fitness run and BBQ. Tentatively, we will meet here at 10am, head to Turkey Creek park for a fitness trail run and shaolin workout. Then stick around for some good old fashioned BBQin'. More details to come.In the spirit of Spring Break, the school will be closed on Monday April 7th and Tuesday April 8th for a mini-break. Enjoy the extra time off and be ready to work in the warrior class on Wednesday night! |

April's Specialty Class
time_stamp Aprils specialty class will be a Drunken Kata called Foong Wang Han Chuei Chuan (Mad Insane Drunkards Fist). This is a great kata, easy to learn and lots of fun. It will introduce you to some very unique fighting moves. This kata is free to all Black Belts as it is part of your curriculum. The cost is $20. The class will meet for 3 weeks every Saturday at 1pm beginning April 12th. |

Start Stretching the Boundaries of Your Life
I wanted to share this story that was sent to me by Johnny Tran, one of our 1st Degree Black Belts. I hope it helps you as it has helped me. Do you ever feel like the world is closing in on you . . . that there is an absence of possibilities for you? How would you like the genuine power, in any moment, to literally be able to change the boundaries of your life? It is indeed true -- even if we don't recognize it yet -- that limitation and possibility coexist. We can look at any given moment and realize that what confines us in this moment isn't the event that took place. What confines us in this moment is the way that our present consciousness is responding to it. The real boundary in any given moment is not the condition that we see but the condition that we don't want to see. Why is not wanting what happened a boundary? Because then you spend your time trying to work through something that can't be changed. What you don't want in the moment isn't so much the event that took place, but that the event stands in the way of what you do want. A simple example -- you look out and see something that bothers you. Do you try to change what you see that bothers you? When you look out and see something that bothers you, what you are experiencing is resistance to something that isn't the way you think it should be. That is your experience, and that is what you see. You see what you don't want to be there, which is your reaction, your negativity. Your resistance to the moment is the boundary. So now you hate the moment because it has stolen from you your happiness. But the moment didn't steal your happiness. The negativity that was produced by the resistance did. If we can see that, then what is it that's asked of us? What must we do? What is our role? By understanding something of the nature of these limitations, we can begin to see, no matter how dimly it is, that it is possible to stretch these boundaries. When thought starts to generate the resistance that it does to its own imagery, and the negativity comes in, we can say, "Stop. I'm not going any further in that. I'm not doing that anymore." This is not an act of resistance. It's an act of seeing the truth of something, and for the truth of it, no longer being able to participate in what punishes us, produced by ourselves. So we stretch the boundaries. Can you think of a position that you've been in, or are in, where you know you need to stretch the boundaries a little bit? Do you have a resentment for somebody that you've been carrying over for years? We stretch the boundaries of our lives when we walk through the discomfort that is the confinement. What is it that confines you? What is it that won't let you play or talk or interact? What is it that says you can't write or you'll never sing? What is it that says you're not as good as someone else, so why try? What are any of these crippling psychological programs inside of this consciousness of humanity powered by other than this: the moment that we feel them, the reason we won't dare them is because they come with a great pain that says, "If I'm ever going to even think about this, this is what I have to look forward to -- humiliation, failure." Then the pain appears because of the resistance to an imagined condition. Your past is an imagined condition, and I don't care what happened to you. Did it happen? Yes. Is it happening now? Only if you re-dream it. So you choose the higher view by realizing that whenever you hear or feel yourself thinking something like, "I'm terrified of this situation... I don't want to deal with him, I don't want to go through that, I've been through stuff like that before, I know just how bad it's going to be ..." you fill in the blanks, and what you are doing in that moment, without knowing it, is adding one more bar to a prison that, as it's being built, is promising you that when you finish it, you'll either be safe or have new possibilities. Shatter it! It's simple. How? Wake up now. Understand that in order to leave the world of limitation, you have to leave it! If you want to leave the world of feeling sorry for yourself, the only way to leave it isn't by thinking about what a sad sack you are, or who made you that way. You actually have to deliberately leave that world. What world are you leaving? The world of thought. The world of dreams. And what world do you enter into? Don't worry about that. Leave the one, and the willingness to leave the one is the entrance into the other. The other will educate you about every subsequent world that exists concurrently. Then you'll know what your true higher possibilities are because they can't be named, they can only be lived. time_stamp |
