The Big October Edition

Some Announcements
No Class on Monday (Columbus Day, but more importantly, its Sifu Bills Birthday)-look out on tuesday. haha.

The Fitness trail run and BBQ had to be moved to Saturday, October 25th. We will meet here at the school at 9am. I am looking for at least one student to get out there early and secure a pavilion. Also one student to collect some money for BBQ supplies. If everyone chips in $5 - $10 we can all pool it and get a great BBQ. We will do it at Aldermans Ford Park this time (hopefully I have the right park this time, haha).

The Fishing Trip will be held on Sunday, October 19th. We will be heading out to Tarpon Springs to catch the boat. The cost of the Trip will be $70 (this includes the tip). I will be collecting money and paying them as a group. I need to collect payment no later than Tuesday, October 14th. You may pay by cash, check, or I can run your account as I will be paying with the company debit card. We need at least 10 people to get this price. The trip will run from 8am-430pm on a Sunday. Some items you may bring with you are a cooler with your choice of beverage (cans and plastic only). A snack or money for on board snacks. Wear comfortable close toed shoes, hat, and bring sunglasses. You will also want to bring a few extra dollars if you want the deckhands to clean your fish for you. Traditionally, this is about a $1 per fish.  This trip will be a lot of fun, all students, family, and friends are welcome.
You must contact me ASAP as we will need to make a reservation no later than Monday to ensure there is enough room.

for those of you still waiting for a T-shirt, I really apologize for the delay, I have decided to fire the printer and am now in the hunt for a new printing company.

We will have a test night on Monday, October 20th. This includes kung fu and tai chi. It will be a great night for all involved, as well as very challenging for some who will be testing in both categories. Please read the story below for reminders on test night. NO regular classes that evening.

I would like to take a moment to remind everyone to shower and wear a clean gi every day to class. I know the workouts will make you sweat anyway, but please think of those around you. When your uniform is not clean, the stinky power is increased exponentially. Funny now, but with as many people as we have in class sometimes, it can get pretty stuffy as is. I DO NOT MEAN TO OFFEND ANYONE, BUT PLEASE TAKE CARE IN YOUR PERSONAL HYGIENE. This is all in your new student manual.

I very much need someone yellow belt or above to help me with my afterschool program on thursdays. If anyone can help, please contact me ASAP.

Test Night Etiquette and Requirements for each level:

T esting for your next belt is a process of demonstrating that you have learned the required material and are able to execute it with precision, power and speed (in that order of importance). Your are never tested unless your primary instructor deems you ready. (This means few people ever fail a test and you almost never have to pay your test fee more than once per level). When Grandmaster Sin is testing, you will first be pre-tested by your primary instructor (the pre-test is free) to insure you are ready. It is an honor to test before the grandmaster and quite an exhilarating experience too. You should view your test a as rite of passage and something to revel in, not a dreaded examination. We understand that many adults have not been "tested" in this way for many years if at all. That's why we make certain you are ready to test so that all you have to deal with is "test anxiety" and not the material itself. Remember, only daily challenge can transform.

*please pay your test fee before the test

Testing Protocol

            1. Wear a clean uniform in good repair and follow the rules for jewelry and           nails as usual

            2. You will first bow to the instructor upon rising when your name is called.

            3. After you have executed the form, bow and then bow to the instructor as        you await further directions.

            4. Should you begin to run out of room, stop and bow, turn (or back up if   necessary) and continue.

            5. Should you make a mistake, bow to the instructor and repeat the form if          it         is a short kata or sparring technique. If it is a long form you can bow and then          take up where you left off.

            6. Never show any emotion during a test (I.e. irritation with yourself) and             never swear. It is poor sportsmanship and will put a negative gloom over your     test causing you to make more mistakes. Think positively!

            7. Be prepared to be tested over everything you know up to your level. If you are testing for black belt, be prepared to perform all material from white to black! Sparring is also a component of your test. You should demonstrate your ability to defend and to attack WITH CONTROL. Don't get crazy during the sparring portion. Those who humiliate their sparring partners during the test only make themselves look bad.

Requirements at each level:
Yellow Belt: Test Fee $40
Required at this level: *Sparring Gear and Bo Staff
*remember, sparring gear is more for your partners safety than your own.
Blue Belt: Test Fee $45
Required at this level: Nunchucks
Green Belt: Test fee $50
Required at this level: Short Stick

Master Grooms Teaches out the 3rd Road to Golden Leopard!
This incredible seminar will be held Saturday, December 6th at 12:00. This is one of those seminars that YOU DONT WANT TO MISS. You do not need to have taken the 1st or 2nd roads to take this one. But you will need all 4 roads to learn the most powerful internal form in all of Shaolin, Liu Shing. We will most likely have Grandmaster Sin out here in the Spring to teach out 2nd and/or 4th road. This is very exciting for us.
The cost will be $60 and will include a DVD of Grandmaster Sin performing the kata.
Remember, when you take these seminars, you not only help yourself, but you also greatly help the school.
